OlegM 05.23.2009 Mushroomhead have been added to three regional stops of the Slayer/Marilyn Manson Rockstar Mayhem Festival in late July, including the July 31 stop at Blossom. By then, the band's fifth album should be done. "A lot of people have said it sounds a little bit like the first record and Superbuick, with some Savior Sorrow mixed in," says band leader/drummer Steve "Skinny" Felton. "[Singer] Waylon [Reavis] is really coming into his own. He's wailing. He's become the frontman that I hired him to be." The title has been reported as The Slaughterhouse Is Back in Business, but the band says that phrase is just a slogan they've been using. The as-yet-untitled CD will be the second featuring Waylon, who co-fronts the band with Jeffrey Nothing (Hatrix). Former frontman Jason "J. Mann" Popson makes a guest appearance on one track. The Mann song, Skinny says, is "really heavy. It's got the bounce. Then Jeffrey comes in with a big, melodic hook and J. comes in with his aggressive rhythm. The old Mushroomhead chemistry came right back." Guitarist Dave "Gravy" Felton says the current lineup is more stable than it's ever been. "I think [the album is] a true collaboration this time," says Gravy. "It's got a real old-school vibe to it." The album will be the band's second in a two-record deal with big indie Megaforce. Recording should be done by June, ready for mixing in July with a fall release. OlegM 04.18.2009 Cleveland's masked metal seven-piece Mushroomhead are hard at work on their seventh album, the follow-up to 2006's Savior Sorrow. The group entered the practice studio in mid-January and in just six weeks wrote eight new songs that range from atmospheric to bone crushing. "There are some really violent moments like Pantera or Slayer that have heavy vocals, and then there's that dark, epic shit that's like A Perfect Circle or Pink Floyd, - says drummer and prodcer Steve "Skinny" Felton. - Our two singers can do so much different stuff, so that gives us a lot of versatility". Mushroomhead expects to have another eight new tunes ready before they start tracking this spring, as well as a batch of covers including the Beatles' "Helter Skelter", Faith No More's "Epic", and a slow, spooky version of Prince's "When Doves Cry". "It's hard to believe," says Skinny. "I keep having to ask myself it this is really Mushroomhead. We're all on the same page and collaborating better than ever. And we're having a great time" Revolver OlegM 04.02.2009 Read recent interview with Stitch here! OlegM 02.28.2009 The pioneering masked madmen MUSHROOMHEAD have locked themselves in their private studio at the Filthy Hands compound in Cleveland, Ohio to begin work on their seventh studio release, which is due out summer 2009 via Megaforce. Produced by co-founding member and drummer Steve "Skinny" Felton, the yet-to-be-titled album promises to be the band's "most violent- and epic-sounding to date!" "Hell yeah, let's go!" states Felton. "After producing the last six albums, I know what these guys can do and once again they are killing it! The cool thing about working with MUSHROOMHEAD is that there is always an idea on the table and someone brings it to the next level. Every time someone tracks they raise the bar for the rest of the records, thank God! They call each other out, they play each other's parts they even fistfight! Their passion is undeniable and that is what rock and roll is all about! The sound is super-dark and creepy and even violent at times." Keyboardist Shmotz adds: "The new album is off to a great start and is full of aggression and intensity, although it is tough to be creative and keep a solid drug habit with all of the illegal downloading and file sharing these days!" OlegM 01.09.2009 Listen Tenafly Viper's new track "Street Trash" OlegM 01.07.2009 Better known to the world as "Gravy," guitarist Dave Felton has been on the frontlines of Cleveland metal for almost 25 years. But whether he's served duty in Mushroomhead, Hatrix or (216), he's always been at the rear of that frontline, as the unsung axemaster and songwriter who hasn't had the chance to really show what he can do. His New Year's resolution for 2009: no more. The five-track Dave's Heavy Duty Demo has all the raw vitality that's missing from most modern metal. Felton plays guitar, bass and drums on three embryonic instrumental cuts, and longtime fans will go nuts for the two complete songs. "Lepers and Liars" and "Wake Us" feature throat-ripping vocals by (216)/ex-Mushroomhead singer Jason Popson and drums programmed by Beyond Fear guitarist John Comprix. The smoking cuts have thrashy animal aggression, Pantera-style mechanical precision and a diesel-burning guitar tone. Felton is currently assembling a lineup for live shows, and the demo is on sale at Mushroomhead gigs. Or take a listen now at Felton's MySpace page. "It's fuckin' heavy," he says. "I wouldn't put my name on it if I didn't think it'd hit you in the chest." So that's where that bruise came from. OlegM 11.08.2008 Pressure from a Florida guitarist's label has put the kibosh on the full-length debut from Cleveland supergroup Tenafly Viper. The metallic southern-rock supergroup features Mushroomhead frontman Waylon Reavis, Mushroomhead programmer Steve "Skinny" Felton, Chimaira bassist Jim LaMarca and Tommy Church, guitarist of Florida headbangers the Autumn Offering. "It's just a bunch of good ol' boys who got together and recorded some songs," says Felton. "We've got 17 songs just sitting around on the shelf. It's killer music." Due to Church's contractual obligations, Tenafly Viper has indefinitely shelved its first album, which is complete. Autumn Offering records for Chicago powerhouse indie record label Victory, which has first dibs on Church's recording projects, and the label wants the lion's share of his money from the project. Felton says Victory's demands are a deal-breaker. "Victory is the worst label to deal with, ever," says LaMarca, who is Chimaira's point man on business affairs. "Record labels don't want to work with side projects. I wouldn't say the band is over, [but] we had all the time we could to do it [between activity for the other bands]." Felton acknowledges the band could re-record the guitar parts with another player but says, "Then Tommy's name would come off, and that's not the whole point. Maybe we'll release it when his contract is up with Victory." LaMarca says the band has no plans to play live. The group has two songs posted at MySpace. The site also has a video for "Reno." Felton directed the performance clip. Mushroomhead programmer Rick "Stitch" Thomas did the camera work. "I wouldn't say it's over," says LaMarca. "Who knows what we're going to do with [the record]? [The situation] kinda sucks." Freetimes.com OlegM 11.06.2008 "There's a ton of material lying around," says Skinny about new album. "Whether that gets used or not is a different story. It sounds like Mushroomhead. A couple really upbeat, heavy tunes. And there's a real dark, doomy keyboard jam. There'll probably be a lot more percussion on this one, a lot of water drums. It's all over the map." Clevescene.com OlegM 11.02.2008 Mushroomhead recently celebrated its 15th year together, and visionary Skinny (real name Steve Felton) has high hopes for the band's next studio effort, which the nationally known metal act hopes to have out next May. "I just want to write a good album with good songs," Felton said. "I just want something that I can listen back to in two years and go, 'Wow, that album rocks.' I don't know if it's happened before. I think 'XIII' was a pretty close one. I listened to that a while ago and was like, 'Man, that's almost a great album.' There were a couple of pieces and parts that didn't make any sense to me after a couple of years and left me wondering, 'Why the hell did we do that?' But at this point, it's the longevity thing and to me the only bands who have longevity are the ones with songs that you can sing along to. So this one I think we're writing a little bit more for us." Cleveland.com OlegM 10.31.2008 Listen these two albums on-line: Mystik - "The Plot Sickens"; Ritual "Trials Of Torment".
